2023 Kariya Delegation

Want to travel to Japan? Sign up for a Kariya Homestay!

The MFA will be traveling to Kariya, Japan this fall, with tentative dates set for November 10-17, 2023.
Take advantage of this opportunity by becoming an MFA member!

Here’s what you can expect:

Kariya Homestay Experience

  • 5-7 days in Kariya, Japan

  • Stay with a local family in a Japanese home

  • Participate in cultural exchanges

  • Attend welcome and farewell banquets

  • One-day sightseeing trip in Kyoto or other tourist destinations

  • Opportunity to wear kimonos

  • Free day with a host family for unique social experiences

  • Cultural and sightseeing activities in Kariya can include visits to Mississauga Park and Kariya City Hall, sumo wrestling practices, indigo dyeing workshops, visits to art galleries, etc. (schedule will vary)

  • All food, transportation, and activities while in Kariya are covered

  • Flight to Japan, gifts for host family, personal shopping and spending will be at your own expense

Policy: Delegates are selected through an application process. Please review the criteria below and complete the application form. Applications are reviewed by the MFA Executive Board and selections are made based on the MFA’s Delegation Selection & Kariya Homestay Program Policy & Procedures.

Application Criteria 

  • Must be a member in good standing of the Mississauga Friendship Association. Annual fees are $20 single and $30 for family

  • Must be a resident of Mississauga and/or work for the City of Mississauga and/or be involved with a Mississauga based community organization

  • Must be able to travel for a minimum of seven days. 

  • Must agree to book ticket and travel with the group on an outbound journey so we arrive together. Delegates can arrange their own travel in Japan after the homestay at their own expense

  • Must be responsible for the cost of the flight (approximately $1500) and personal expenses (approximately $300)

  • Successful candidates must be willing to host a delegate from Kariya in the next two years. (Kariya homestay is usually the last week of June/beginning of July)

  • All delegates are expected to participate fully in the activities planned

  • A police record check may be required for selected delegates going to Kariya
